Two distinguished artists, Greg Wyatt and Eugene Daub, have been selected as the 2011 Anne Edens Rainey Master Sculptors. They will be artists in residence, will teach sculpture workshops, and will present public programs at Brookgreen Gardens. Master Sculptors are selected by invitation each year. The program is supported by a generous gift from John Rainey in honor of his wife, Anne.

Greg Wyatt

Upon completion of a BA degree in art history at Columbia College in 1971, Greg Wyatt studied classical sculpture for three years at the National Academy School of Fine Arts under sculptor Evangelos Frudakis. He earned an MA degree at Columbia University, Teachers College in ceramic arts in 1974, and completed doctoral coursework in art education in 1976. Greg Wyatt, a native of Grand View-on-Hudson, NY, was nurtured in the artistic tradition of his native Hudson River Valley at an early age by his father, William Stanley Wyatt, painter and fine arts professor at Columbia University and the City College of the City University of New York. Cast bronze is his primary medium of artistic expression. His work process is very attentive to craftsmanship and the fine details of cast bronze. Wyatt has been Sculptor in Residence at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York City since 1983, and is a fellow of the National Sculpture Society and member of the National Arts Club.

 

Eugene Daub

Eugene Daub studied at the University of Pittsburgh, the Pennsylvania Academy for the Fine Arts, and Alfred University in New York. His teaching experience is equally extensive, having taught at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, the Pennsylvania Academy for the Fine Arts, the Johnson Atelier Technical Institute of Sculpture, and Rutgers University. Eugene Daub is nationally known for his work in the field of medallic art. He received the highest national and international awards for excellence in figurative and bas-relief sculpture from the American Numismatic Society and the American Numismatic Association. In 2002, he received the Arthur Ross Award from the Institute of Classical Architecture and Classical America for achievement in figurative sculpture. He is a fellow of the National Sculpture Society and of the American Numismatic Society, and is a former vice president of the American Medallic Sculpture Association. His works appear in numerous private and public collections, including the British Museum, the Smithsonian, and Brookgreen Gardens.
